A Counterpoint Research analyst report states that new PC sales have surged as the Windows 10 operating system "dies." Microsoft's decision has even impacted Apple computers, with their popularity unexpectedly rising.
According to statistics, global PC (including laptop) shipments are projected to increase by 8.1% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2025. Lenovo (+17%), Apple (+15%), and ASUS (+14%) saw the largest increases.
Analysts point out that the end of support for Windows 10 is one of the main reasons for the sales surge. Businesses and some users are forced to switch to hardware compatible with Windows 11, with Macs becoming an alternative in some cases.
Experts also note that businesses are stockpiling hardware in anticipation of US import tariffs. Meanwhile, analysts say that despite Microsoft's aggressive promotion, consumers are still reluctant to upgrade to computers supporting the Copilot+ platform, focusing instead on basic hardware configurations.
