This year, Samsung released its first ultra-thin phone, the S25 Edge. However, due to poor market performance, the planned successor, the S26 Edge, was ultimately cancelled. Although Samsung halted S26 Edge development, the project had progressed to the point where prototypes could be manufactured before its termination. On November 14th, these prototypes were revealed for the first time.
According to a leaker, a set of photos of the S26 Edge prototype has circulated online. These four photos clearly reveal the astonishing thinness the S26 Edge would achieve if it were ever released. One image shows the prototype being measured, while the other three compare it to the iPhone 16 Pro.
The photos show that the prototype is approximately 5.5 millimeters thick, a truly impressive figure. This makes it 0.3 millimeters thinner than the 5.8-millimeter-thick S25 Edge. It even surpasses the 5.6-millimeter-thick iPhone Air in terms of thinness and lightness.
This revelation confirms previous market rumors that Samsung, after weighing the pros and cons, decided to shelve the development plan for the S26 Edge due to lower-than-expected sales of the S25 Edge, concluding that the challenges and compromises of continuing aggressively exploring the "ultra-thin" design were too great. CNMO also learned that there were previous rumors that Apple also delayed the launch of the iPhone Air2 due to poor sales of the iPhone Air.
