The iPhone 18 Pro Max, slated for release in 2026, may become the heaviest and thickest iPhone flagship ever. Its weight is expected to exceed 240 grams, about 10 grams heavier than the current iPhone 17 Pro Max's 233 grams, surpassing the previous iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max to set a new record. Simultaneously, its thickness is projected to be close to 9 millimeters, slightly thicker than the current model's 8.8 millimeters.
This change in the iPhone 18 Pro Max is believed to stem from significant internal hardware upgrades. Reportedly, the iPhone 18 Pro series will be the first to adopt an under-display Face ID solution, the camera module has been redesigned, and the battery may be encapsulated in a steel casing to improve structural strength and security. While Apple has not yet confirmed whether it will simultaneously increase battery capacity, these component adjustments typically result in additional weight.
Regarding the appearance, sources suggest that Apple is attempting to optimize the overall visual consistency of the device, planning to make the colors of the aluminum alloy frame and the reinforced glass back more harmonious, addressing the disjointed two-tone feel caused by material differences in the iPhone 17 Pro series. While this move won't directly impact performance, it's expected to enhance the overall premium feel of high-end models.
Regarding the product release schedule, multiple sources indicate that Apple may adopt a phased strategy to launch the entire iPhone 18 series. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to debut in September 2026, alongside the long-rumored first foldable iPhone; while the standard iPhone 18 and the entry-level iPhone 18e may be delayed until early 2027.
