Mercedes-Benz recently released exterior and interior details of the new GLB, which will debut on December 8th.
From the released images, the new Mercedes-Benz GLB will feature a bolder front fascia and a new headlight design, thanks to the new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA). The overall design retains the boxy shape, but the interior has been completely redesigned, adopting a three-screen layout consistent with the Mercedes-Benz CLA and CLA Shooting Brake released this year.
Notably, the MBUX Super Screen and the panoramic sunroof with its "starry sky effect" are optional extras on the new Mercedes-Benz GLB; the base model will not include a passenger-side display screen. The new car will feature a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and dual 14-inch touchscreens, retaining a few physical buttons on the "floating" center console.
A key difference between the new Mercedes-Benz GLB and the Mercedes-Benz CLA lies in the rear seat design. The GLB offers an optional third row with two individual seats; the seven-seat version comes standard with a sliding second row, while the five-seat version offers this option. It's worth mentioning that the third-row seats can be folded completely flat, significantly expanding cargo space.
CNMO noted that the new Mercedes-Benz GLB offers significantly more legroom in the second row. The almost flat roofline further enhances headroom in the first two rows, providing passengers with a more comfortable ride.
Regarding the powertrain, the new Mercedes-Benz GLB is expected to be consistent with the Mercedes-Benz CLA, offering single-motor and dual-motor all-electric versions, as well as a mild hybrid system based on a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The all-electric version will be upgraded to an 800V system, with an expected power output between 230 and 355 horsepower and a battery capacity between 58 kWh and 85 kWh.
