Elon Musk posted on the X platform yesterday that his xAI company's Grok 5 AI model will challenge top human teams in League of Legends in 2026, setting strict fair conditions: viewing the screen only through a camera simulating human vision (20/20), and response latency and click speed must be comparable to humans. Musk emphasized that Grok 5's core design is to autonomously learn any game through reading instructions and experimentation, a capability that gives it the potential to generalize to challenges.
Google DeepMind's head, Oriol Vinyals, immediately suggested extending the test to StarCraft, to which Musk responded "sounds good," sparking a discussion about the AI's multi-game adaptability. The official Grok account also responded enthusiastically, stating, "As Grok 4, I look forward to Grok 5 proving its strength under fair constraints," and reiterating xAI's mission to push the boundaries of general artificial intelligence.
Previously, at the Baron Capital conference, Musk made no secret of his confidence in Grok 5, stating that it will "become the most intelligent AI in the world." According to The Information, Grok 5, originally planned for release in 2025, has been delayed to 2026. Its parameters reach 6 trillion, twice that of the current Grok 3/4. If successful, this esports challenge could mark a significant milestone in AI technology's journey towards general intelligence.
