Reports indicate that Microsoft has acknowledged a bug in Windows 10 that caused many computers still under support to incorrectly display the message "Your version of Windows has ended support."
According to a blog post, the bug has a wide impact, affecting almost all versions of Windows 10 still receiving updates, including Pro, Enterprise, and Education users who have purchased paid Extended Security Updates (ESU).
Furthermore, users of Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 and IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021, which have longer support periods, also received this error alert.
What's more frustrating for users is that the alert persists after it appears, attempting to persuade them to upgrade to Windows 11, creating unnecessary upgrade pressure.
Microsoft emphasizes that this is merely a display error and will not affect the actual receipt of security updates. As long as the user's device meets the support requirements, such as being enrolled in the ESU program or using an LTSC version, all future security updates, including the upcoming Patch Tuesday, will be pushed out and installed normally. Microsoft officially recommends that users safely ignore this error message until the problem is resolved, and there is no need to upgrade the operating system.
Microsoft has quickly deployed a server-side fix for this issue. Users simply need to go to Settings, check for updates, and restart their computers; the fix will apply automatically. Microsoft states that the erroneous "Stop Support" message is expected to disappear automatically within 24 to 48 hours.
For administrators who need immediate assistance, Microsoft has also provided an additional Known Issue Rollback (KIR) patch (KB5066791), which can be manually deployed via the Group Policy Editor to quickly fix this display error.
