A enthusiast from Brazil has successfully repaired a "dead" RTX 5070 Ti. Rather than throw away the card, which had a burned-out VRM and holes in the PCB, engineers built a hybrid graphics card.
To repair the RTX 5070 Ti, the engineers used an old AMD Radeon RX 580 as an external power supply, redesigned the power delivery system, and made some modifications.
The most challenging part of the experiment was adjusting the power architecture. This is because AMD and NVIDIA have completely different power management systems. This required manually connecting power cables and adjusting timings. Despite this, the modified RTX 5070 Ti was still able to boot up and run light tasks, which can be considered a technical success. The team plans to refine the power supply design and conduct comprehensive benchmarking.
