TP-Link announced the first successful Wi-Fi 8 data transfer test. Unlike previous generations, which focused on maximum speed, Wi-Fi 8 prioritizes connection stability.
The new standard, technically designated 802.11bn, can support multiple devices simultaneously, completely eliminating connection drops as devices move around the home. Wi-Fi 8 is also compatible with existing phones, laptops, and other devices.
It will support Distributed Resource Units (DRU) to boost the signal when devices are far from the router. It also features Enhanced Long Range (ELR), which extends coverage, and Unequal Channel Modulation (UEQM), which prevents speed drops due to heavy channel congestion.
Dynamic Sub-band Operation (DSO) and Non-Primary Channel Access (NPCA) optimize frequency usage, while Multi AP Coordination synchronizes multiple access points, reducing interference.
Wi-Fi 8 supports speeds up to 46 Gbps and operates in the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands, which is enough for watching 8K video and streaming high-quality content to VR headsets.
