TASS reported the incident, citing a letter from the agency's head, Maxim Shaskolsky, to the US company. The letter also revealed a deadline for compliance with a requirement of the Russian Federal Accounting Standards Committee (FAS).
According to sources, the letter states that Apple's current policy violates Russian consumer protection law. Specifically, smartphones sold in Russia must have a search engine from Russia or the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) pre-installed and enabled by default. This search engine must function without any additional configuration.
According to TASS, the agency requires the US brand to enable one of the designated search engines on Apple devices. Apple must respond to the letter by October 31, 2025. The head of the Ministry of Digital Development stated that if Apple fails to comply, "severe" measures may be taken against it.
