Samsung has officially announced that it will hold its "Worlds Wide Open" Galaxy event at 10 PM ET on October 21st (10 AM BST on October 22nd), where it will unveil details about its first mixed reality headset, "Project Moohan." This device, considered a direct competitor to Apple's Vision Pro, is powered by the Android XR platform, jointly developed by Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm. This system is designed from the ground up for AI optimization and focuses on openness and immersion. Samsung invited media to experience a prototype as early as late 2024, and after nearly a year of refinement, the product is entering its full release phase.
Project Moohan will reportedly feature two 4K micro OLED displays with a total of 29 million pixels, delivering industry-leading visual quality. Pre-orders are now open on the official website, with users receiving a $100 credit to spend on other Samsung products. This move comes as Apple is reportedly adjusting its strategy, halting development of a lightweight version of the Vision Pro in favor of developing smart glasses, further highlighting Samsung's ambitions to capture the high-end mixed reality market.
The technical highlight of this conference is the cross-device scalability of the Android XR platform. Samsung emphasizes that it can achieve intelligent interaction through AI and provide users with a seamless mixed reality experience.
