With Windows 10's official support officially ending on October 14, 2025, Microsoft has announced the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, allowing users to continue receiving security patches for a fee. The service is now available in the Windows Store, priced at 214 yuan (US$29.99 at the exchange rate) in China. A free trial is available, and the ESU package is just 0.1MB in size.
Notably, users in the EU can access the ESU service free of charge by simply logging into their Microsoft account; non-EU users must sync their system settings to OneDrive to activate it. Users can do so through the "Sign Up Now" option on the Windows Update page. US users can also redeem ESU for 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points or purchase it directly for US$29.99.
Microsoft emphasizes that the ESU program is a one-time purchase, non-renewing, and valid until October 13, 2026. The company says this is intended to provide transitional support for users migrating to Windows 11 or Copilot+ PCs.
