After the recent One UI 8 update, many Galaxy smartphone users reported a strange issue with the Google Chrome browser. Instead of websites using the entire display area, a blank space appears at the bottom of the screen, obscuring the content. This issue affects not only regular websites but also full-screen videos and progressive web apps.
In multiple Reddit discussions, users reported that the issue occurs regardless of the page they visit. Galaxy S25 Ultra users with gesture controls enabled are particularly vulnerable. Some tech enthusiasts suspect the issue stems from a change in the display behavior of the new version of Chrome. A post on X by tech enthusiast BenIt Pro also confirmed that the browser is erratic under One UI 8 and Android 16, with a noticeable bar at the bottom.
Samsung is also planning a new feature: AI capabilities in One UI 8.5 will be able to detect and block spam calls.
Other Android devices are also affected by the issue. Samsung users aren't the only ones noticing this issue. Other Android devices using Chromium-based browsers, such as Brave, have also experienced this distracting notch. However, the issue is more noticeable on smartphones with the gesture bar hidden—there, the bright area immediately draws attention. Users who leave the navigation display visible are less likely to notice the issue, as the areas blend in.
Chrome Issues on Galaxy Devices: These Tips Provide Users
Some adventurous users have shared some promising workarounds. Disabling the "Edge To Edge Everywhere" option in Chrome settings (chrome://flags) and restarting the browser should partially eliminate the issue. However, this method doesn't work on all devices. Other users report that downgrading to Chrome version 139 completely resolves the issue.
Google is currently testing true full-screen displays, where content extends to the edges of the screen, including the status bar and navigation bar. However, many users are still hoping for a quick update until the feature is stable and available to everyone.
