Google is about to integrate its AI assistant, Gemini, into Google Maps. This will soon make voice control via the classic Google Assistant a thing of the past.
According to Android Authority, the current beta version of Google Maps,
25.41.03.815390258, debuts the option to activate Gemini directly in the navigation view. Users who enable this feature will no longer see the usual Assistant when tapping the microphone icon in the top right corner, but instead will see the new Gemini interface.
This continues Google's strategy of gradually integrating Gemini into all of its apps. The new assistant is considered more powerful and flexible than its predecessor. Its potential is particularly evident while driving: Gemini can adjust routes based on voice commands, such as avoiding toll roads or highways—without any manual input. Similarly, users can ask weather or general knowledge questions without interrupting navigation.
Google Maps Gets More Modern Voice Control with Gemini
Once Gemini is enabled in Google Maps, an additional menu item appears where you can manage your AI settings. Clicking this takes you directly to the Gemini app, where users can customize their preferences.
This feature is currently in beta and available only to testers. However, due to the smooth integration, it is expected to be rolled out globally soon through regular updates.
With the launch of Gemini, Google Maps will have a more modern voice control system. The goal is clear: to make driving safer and more convenient while also allowing the app to be more responsive to user requests. Therefore, anyone who frequently uses Google Maps for navigation will soon enjoy a smarter experience.
