Chrome users report dark mode bug: There's only one stable solution

Following the recent update to Chrome version 141, numerous users reported graphical display errors in Dark Mode. The issue began immediately after the release of version 141.0.7390.55. Users who enabled the Smart Dimming test option suddenly noticed that pages that previously displayed correctly were displaying abnormally. Particularly noticeable were distorted retailer logos, corrupted thumbnails, and broken application icons.

Google Development Team: Display Error Affects All Platforms
A user reported the bug on the official Chromium bug portal and documented their observations with comparison images. While the previous version 140 still displayed correctly, the new version unexpectedly inverted image elements that should have remained unchanged.

According to the Google Development Team, the display error affects all platforms (Windows, macOS, and Linux) and exists across all release stages, from stable to experimental. The cause is a code change within the dimming module. This change, initially part of a source code cleanup, unexpectedly affected color value calculations.

Chrome Issue: Complaints Continue
Complaints are increasing on the relevant discussion platform. Users are reporting issues like upside-down product images, distorted icons, and unusable video previews in online stores. Particularly problematic are scannable codes like QR codes and barcodes, which sometimes fail completely because scanners can't read the inverted images.

An external software engineer explained in a forum post that the browser now uses a different color space. This change disrupted the image inversion logic. Therefore, Google plans to switch to the new color model in the future and completely remove the problematic inversion feature.

Affected users will be switching back to Chrome 140.
Many affected users are currently working around the issue by downgrading to Chrome 140, the last stable version without display issues. The bug was initially considered a top-priority "release blocker" but was later downgraded because experimental features shouldn't delay the official release.

Google has not yet provided a specific timeline for a bug fix. Until then, downgrading to an older version remains the only stable solution.

Galaxy users have also complained about display issues after the update.
