Cool Down has introduced an upgraded version of its eponymous energy-saving system, which uses basement temperature to regulate a home's climate. Previously used primarily for room cooling, the system now also offers heating capabilities.
The Cool Down system works based on the principle of heat transfer. It draws cool air from the basement into the living space while simultaneously drawing excess heat back into the ground and dissipating it. Testing has shown that this technology can reduce air conditioning usage by up to 67% per season.
The upgraded control unit offers a range of new features. The system now displays energy savings in real time. Furthermore, the basic heating mode technology allows for additional heating during colder months, such as from a furnace, solar windows, or a mini-split air conditioner.
Also, basement dehumidification, enhanced cooling, and an "Eco" mode have been added. According to company founder Damien Semel-DeFeo, these features are designed to give homeowners more control and help them save electricity.
