Nissan has unveiled a new, more affordable version of its popular LEAF B5 electric vehicle. The company hopes the updated model will help it maintain its leading position in the Japanese market, which is facing increasing competition from Chinese and Korean brands such as BYD, Hyundai, and Kia.
The LEAF B5 will be part of the third generation of the model, which debuted this summer. Nissan is highlighting its improved range, faster charging, and a new design incorporating crossover elements. The new B5 will feature a smaller 55 kWh battery.
The model is scheduled to go on sale in February 2026. Nissan is also accepting orders for the more powerful LEAF B7, which features a 78 kWh battery and a range of up to 702 kilometers. Using a 150 kW charger, it can charge from 10% to 80% in just 35 minutes.
Pricing for the new LEAF lineup in Japan currently starts at $34,000. The LEAF B7 AUTECH is priced at $42,600, and the B5 AUTECH price will be announced closer to launch.
