AMD shared details about its upcoming RDNA 5 architecture in a video posted on its official YouTube channel. AMD Graphics Director Jack Huynh and PlayStation Lead Engineer Mark Cerny outlined three key innovations for the next-generation GPU.
First, the new GPU will feature the Radiance core. Its key feature compared to current AMD graphics cards is faster ray tracing and real-time pathfinding in games.
The updated Neural Network Array will be a collection of compute units for data exchange and processing, working together as a single AI engine. This will drive advancements in neural rendering technology and improve image quality.
Finally, Universal Compression graphics data compression technology will reduce memory bandwidth usage, resulting in higher GPU performance.
AMD has not yet announced when these technologies will be implemented in consumer solutions. The RDNA 5 architecture will likely only be used in discrete graphics solutions and will not appear in new graphics cards or the PlayStation 6 console until next year.
