Yesterday (October 10th), tech media outlet Appleinsider published a blog post revealing Apple's Mac product plans for the next two years by digging deep into macOS 26 Tahoe development and hardware testing files. According to the code, Apple will launch its first device equipped with the M5 chip by the end of 2025, internally codenamed J704, and expected to be the base M5 MacBook Pro. Apple is currently using a beta version of macOS 26.0.2 to verify this model. Considering the limited supply of the M4 MacBook Pro and the FCC's leak of a new model, the M5 MacBook Pro is highly likely to be the first product in the M5 family, officially debuting in late 2025.
In 2026, Apple's product updates will intensify. Early this year, the M5 MacBook Air, codenamed J813 and J815, will debut in both 13-inch and 15-inch sizes, and will come pre-installed with macOS 26.2. Subsequently, the more powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros (codenamed J714 and J716) will follow, equipped with macOS 26.3, further enriching the M5 series notebook lineup.
After the laptop refresh, Apple plans to upgrade its desktop lineup in the summer of 2026. Documents indicate that the new Mac mini (codenamed J873s/g) and the next-generation Mac Studio (codenamed J775c/d) will be released alongside macOS 26.4. Furthermore, the system version also supports a device codenamed J833ct, presumably a new iMac.
Even more notably, Apple has begun preparations for the M6 chip-based MacBook Pro. The M6 Pro and M6 Max models, codenamed K114 and K116, will not only feature slimmer designs but also, for the first time, OLED displays, marking another major evolution of the Mac lineup.
