Recently, South Korean media reported that Huawei, China's leading tech giant, is actively attracting global talent, with the number of South Korean researchers drawing widespread attention. According to a recent report from CBS No Cut News, as of June this year, the number of South Korean R&D personnel working at Huawei had exceeded 300.
A senior industry insider familiar with Huawei revealed, "There are currently approximately 300 South Korean R&D personnel working at Huawei. These individuals are not ethnic Koreans from China, but rather Korean nationals who have received formal education in South Korea." The insider added, "While the outflow of South Korean tech talent to large American tech companies is more well-known, it is understood that other Chinese tech companies, besides Huawei, also employ a significant number of South Korean researchers."
South Korean media stated that this data confirms that a large number of South Korean researchers have taken root in China. Chinese tech companies are continuously attracting top global talent by offering favorable conditions, including high salaries. Currently, Huawei's R&D personnel account for 55% of its total workforce of 208,000. While South Korean employees do not constitute the majority of the R&D team, the trend is still noteworthy.
It is worth mentioning that contrary to the common belief that "mainly scientific and technological talents approaching retirement age choose to go to China", actual surveys show that among the Korean talents employed by Huawei, the proportion of active researchers in the golden period of their careers is also quite high, reflecting that Chinese technology companies are becoming more attractive to high-end talents of all ages.
