Samsung SDI recently announced that its American electric vehicle manufacturer, Lucid Automotive, set a new world record for driving the Lucid Air Grand Touring in a recent test drive: 1,205 kilometers on a single charge. The test, conducted last month, covered highways, mountain roads, and back roads from St. Moritz, Switzerland, to Munich, Germany. The vehicle completed the entire journey without requiring additional charging, surpassing the previous record of 1,045 kilometers by 160 kilometers.
The Lucid Air Grand Touring is a high-performance, long-range model launched last year. Powered by exceptional battery performance, it offers exceptional range and powerful performance, delivering up to 831 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds, and reaching a top speed of 270 km/h. It also supports ultra-fast charging, providing a range of 400 kilometers in just 16 minutes.
Notably, the Guinness World Record-breaking vehicle is equipped with 6,600 Samsung SDI 21700 cylindrical batteries. These batteries utilize a high-nickel nickel-cobalt-aluminum cathode and a silicon-based anode, delivering high capacity, long life, and ultra-fast charging performance. Samsung SDI and Lucid Motors established a strategic partnership in 2016 and have since collaborated on the release of high-performance vehicles such as the Lucid Air Dream Edition.
A Samsung SDI spokesperson stated, "The installation of Samsung SDI's cylindrical batteries in the world's longest-range vehicle demonstrates the excellence of our technology." He added, "We will strengthen our collaboration with Lucid Motors to expand global market share and accelerate the development of products that offer both differentiated performance and safety."
