google japan has once again developed an unusual keyboard. true to tradition, the company has announced a new physical version of its iconic gboard keyboard. this time, it's equipped with a rotating dial.
it features a rotating dial instead of traditional keys. users select the desired character by inserting their finger into a hole and turning the dial. according to the developers, this mechanism not only prevents typos but also provides a distinctive clicking sound and "typing time" during input. google jokingly calls this "enhancing concentration before typing the next character".
the design is not limited to a single dial. engineers have developed a three-layered layout to improve input speed and reduce size. dedicated dials are provided for practical functions and numbers, and it's also possible to customize the design with cases and accessories.
of course, this gboard won't be officially released. this is a tribute to the legendary 101 keyboard and is scheduled for google japan's april fools' day event on october 1st. however, enthusiastic fans can make this idea a reality. google has announced plans to enable anyone to create their own version.
