the german portal computebase showcased the performance of the new snapdragon x2 elite extreme processor with an 18-core oryon-3 chip (two of which can be overclocked up to 5ghz) in a reference notebook pc. in various tests, this chip outperformed competing products from amd, intel, and apple.
on geekbench 6.5, the new model achieved a record single-core score of 4072. this is 7% higher than the apple m4 pro and significantly outperforms the intel core ultra 9 285h (by about 36%) and the ryzen ai 9 hx 370 (by about 44%). in multi-core tests, the snapdragon x2 elite extreme outperformed the core ultra 9 285h by 35% and both the mac mini and the m4 pro by 5%.
the results of cinebench 2024 were mixed. the snapdragon x2 elite extreme maintained its lead in multi-threaded tests, but in single-core performance, apple's m4 series maintained its lead, outperforming qualcomm's new processor by about 7%. however, qualcomm's performance in single-core computing has significantly closed the gap with apple.
the npu is particularly noteworthy. the new version of the neural processor has improved performance from 45 tops to 80 tops (int8), making it the undisputed leader in this field. the closest competing products offer a maximum of 50 tops.
the graphics unit has also been significantly upgraded. the adreno x2-90, which operates at a clock speed of up to 1.85ghz, delivers a 2.3-fold performance improvement compared to the previous generation and also supports hardware ray tracing. in the 3dmark steel nomad light test, the new gpu achieved a performance improvement of about 140% compared to the x1 elite, positioning itself between the apple m4 and m4 pro and surpassing intel and amd's integrated graphics solutions.
