lexar has announced a series of memory cards called armor, which feature a unique design. the casing is made of stainless steel rather than the usual plastic. these new cards are touted as "unbreakable" and are designed to withstand extreme conditions.
the new series includes two models: armor gold sdxc and armor silver pro sdxc. both have a capacity of 1tb, but differ in their read and write speeds. the gold model offers speeds of up to 280/205mb/s, while the silver model offers speeds of up to 280/160mb/s. camera users equipped with these "consumables" can record 6k videos.
according to lexar, these drives are 37 times more durable than "standard" memory cards (no specific example is provided). specifications indicate that they can withstand drops from up to 5 meters, resist dust, and survive immersion in fresh water up to 1.5 meters (ip68 standard).
the lexar armor gold sdxc is expected to be available in the us market at a price of $369 at the end of the third quarter of 2025, while the armor silver pro sdxc is expected to be available in the us market at a price of $364 in the fourth quarter of 2025.
