Google's new Nest IP camera can recognize people and other objects.

google has expanded its lineup of nest smart devices following its smart speaker line. it has released the nest cam indoor ip camera and the next-generation nest cam outdoor doorbell. both devices are equipped with the gemini neural network, allowing them to "see" and recognize faces even in the dark.

the nest cam indoor (third generation) is designed for home video surveillance. it records videos at 1440p and 30fps and has a 152° field of view. it features hdr-enabled night vision (with two 850nm infrared lights covering a range of up to 4.5 meters), a microphone and speaker for hands-free calls, and wi-fi and bluetooth connectivity.

google says, "the new nest cam has a wide diagonal field of view of 152°, while the nest doorbell has a wide diagonal field of view of 166° with a 1:1 aspect ratio, allowing you to see everything from packages on the ground to wide hallways and visitors from head to toe."

the gemini neural network can recognize objects and faces, summarize what it has captured, and automatically create free-form scenes. for example, it can turn on the lights when no one is home during weekdays.

the nest cam outdoor (second generation) is also compatible with gemini for home, but it is designed for outdoor video surveillance. it has the same specifications as the nest cam indoor, but with a longer night vision range of up to 6.1 meters.

the company has also released the third-generation nest doorbell smart doorbell. it features a camera (2048×2048 pixels, 30fps), an ultra-wide-angle lens (166°), a speaker, a microphone, and night vision lights that cover a range of up to 3 meters.

by using gemini for home, this gadget can create daily summaries and send personalized notifications to smartphones. for example, it can send notifications like "diana stopped by" or "sergei took the dog for a walk". it also supports creating scenes and summarizing daily events.

the price of the new nest cam indoor in the united states is $99, and the prices of the nest cam outdoor and nest doorbell are $149 and $179 respectively.
