nikon announced the winning works of the photo contest "macro world 2025", which showcases the wonders of the macro world. the judges selected five merit awards and 19 merit awards.

the grand prix was awarded to american photographer jay mcclellan. mcclellan won with a time-lapse photo of a self-pollinating veronica timofeeva flower, shot with image stacking and a 5x magnification.

mcclellan was also nominated for a video showing the crystallization of cobalt, copper, and sodium chloride.

other notable participants include brazilian scientist alvaro migotto, who photographed marine invertebrate larvae in the process of metamorphosis.

swiss photographer janos waltkirch exhibited a beetle composed of 7,073 images.
