The parameters of NVIDIA's Rubin AI chip are surging: both TGP and bandwidth have seen a significant increase.

the competition between amd and nvidia in the ai chip market is intensifying. as both companies continue to optimize their next-generation product designs, the competition for high-end ai architectures is becoming increasingly fierce. according to recent reports, the competition between amd's instinct mi450 series and nvidia's vera rubin chip has intensified to an unprecedented level.

semianalysis pointed out that the designs of mi450 and vera rubin have been adjusted repeatedly over the years, mainly with the aim of surpassing each other's performance.

for example, the tgp power consumption of mi450 has increased by 200w from the original value, while the tgp of vera rubin has increased by 500w to 2300w.

at the same time, the bandwidth of vera rubin has also increased from 13tb/s per gpu to 20tb/s, and it is now leading mi450x by a margin of 0.4tb/s, compared to a lag of 5tb/s in the past. these adjustments are clearly intended to give amd an advantage over its competitors.

in the past, amd and nvidia maintained a significant gap, mainly because it was difficult for amd to catch up with nvidia's product cycle.

with the launch of next-generation products, the technological gap between amd and nvidia is expected to narrow. both companies plan to leverage similar technologies such as hbm4, tsmc's n3p process node, and chiplet design.

amd has high expectations for the mi450 series. amd executive forest norrod stated that mi450 will be a "milan moment" for amd, just like the groundbreaking launch of the epyc 7003 series server processor.

norrod explicitly stated that mi450 will be more competitive than nvidia's vera rubin, and there is no doubt that next-generation products will lead users to choose amd's technology stack rather than nvidia's.

at present, the complete specifications of amd's mi450 and nvidia's vera rubin have not been fully disclosed, but according to amd executives, mi450 is expected to be equipped with hardware that is sufficient to gain market acceptance.
