Qualcomm CEO: 6G pre-commercial equipment will be widely deployed as early as 2028

On September 24th, at the 2025 Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon stated that 6G pre-commercial equipment will be deployed on a large scale as early as 2028.

6G pre-commercial equipment refers to equipment deployed on a large scale prior to the official commercial launch of 6G communication technology, primarily used to test and verify the performance and stability of 6G networks. Compared to 5G, 6G will not only achieve higher speeds, peak rates, and regional throughput, as well as greater reliability and lower latency, but will also deeply integrate telepresence technologies to build an integrated air-space-ground communications network.

Communications industry experts point out that 6G will give rise to two new scenarios: telematics and intelligence fusion and telepresence integration. Telematics and intelligence fusion represents the integration of AI computing and network communications to enhance capabilities such as assisted driving and medical diagnosis. Telepresence integration refers to the ability to perceive both unconnected objects (such as the human body) and connected objects (such as mobile phones).

Ma Jihua, founder of Darui Consulting, has stated that in certain specific application scenarios, 5G technology is insufficient and requires the support of 6G. Taking autonomous driving as an example, 5G's ideal latency is 1 millisecond, but in actual end-to-end transmission, the latency can reach 10 milliseconds. 6G is expected to completely resolve this issue with even lower latency.

Ericsson expert Janne Peisa also stated that while mobile phones dominated the 4G and 5G eras, the 6G era will see a diversification of devices. In addition to traditional mobile devices, these devices may also include Google Glass and large-scale AI interactive models.
