GoPro Max 2 and GoPro Lit Hero: Details on the new action cameras

GoPro will release two new action cameras with unique features tomorrow: the GoPro Max 2 and the GoPro Lite Hero. The GoPro Max 2 is expected to be a major upgrade, as the company is investing in a new sensor with significantly higher resolution. We've already gotten all the details about the new GoPro cameras.

The GoPro Max 2 boasts a 21% higher sensor resolution, allowing it to shoot up to 29 megapixels of 360-degree photos, while using just one sensor, it can capture up to 12 megapixels of photos. The new action camera supports 360-degree mode at up to 30 frames per second, with "true" 8K resolution. It also offers 5.6K at 60 frames per second and 4K at 100 frames per second.

Video mode offers up to 4K60 quality in "mono mode." As usual, it comes with a host of stabilization and optimization features designed for shake-free video or low-light recording. GoPro promises 10-bit color depth, even in 360-degree mode. Six microphones ensure good audio quality in all operating modes.

The manufacturer also touts the GoPro Max 2 as supporting TimeWarp technology in 8K mode and a new 1960 mAh battery, which is said to offer reliable battery life—though specific specifications have not yet been released. The new camera is said to be waterproof up to 5 meters and supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and GPS. The official European suggested retail price is expected to be €579.

The GoPro Hero Lit, on the other hand, is an upgrade to the GoPro Hero (2024), which GoPro launched last year as a more affordable entry-level model in its action camera lineup. It features a 12-megapixel sensor and can record video in up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. Its unique selling point is the LED light built into the front of the camera, which GoPro aims to make more appealing to streamers. The LED light has three brightness levels and, like other features, can be controlled via the touchscreen on the back of the camera. GoPro also claims it is waterproof up to 5 meters. The camera's suggested retail price is expected to be just under €240.

Both new GoPro products will be officially released tomorrow (September 23, 2025).
