Early last month, Bloomberg News revealed that Apple is secretly developing a generative AI search product called "World Knowledge Answers" (WKA), led by the newly formed "Answers, Knowledge, and Information" team. Although the team is relatively new, renowned technology journalist Mark Gurman has recently revealed that this product, internally codenamed WKA, is scheduled to launch alongside the next version of Siri in March 2026 and will be deeply integrated into the Safari browser and Spotlight search tool.
Notably, while Apple's intelligent assistant Siri has long lagged behind competitors in AI capabilities, the company is clearly determined to achieve breakthroughs in generative AI. WKA's research and development targets currently popular technologies like Perplexity and OpenAI's ChatGPT, aiming to reshape the search experience by restructuring the intelligent assistant ecosystem. Apple is currently conducting key internal technology selection tests to determine whether the next generation of Siri will utilize its own in-house model or rely on solutions from external vendors such as Google and Anthropic.
From the timing point of view, Apple's AI strategy has entered the implementation phase. While the technology selection has not yet been finalized, the launch schedule for WKA appears to be unaffected. Industry insiders analyzed that the rapid advancement of this product reflects Apple’s urgent demand for the AI search market, and also indicates that the AI functions of the Apple ecosystem may be fully upgraded in the spring of next year.
