Google today officially launched its new smart home voice assistant, "Gemini for Home," which will be available on Nest devices in October through an early access program. This new product, based on the Gemini AI model, will gradually replace the existing Google Assistant and become the central hub for smart home control.
The new Assistant maintains the "Hey Google" wake-up method and supports the entire family and guests, enabling seamless control of smart devices like lights, music, and timers. Compared to previous versions, "Gemini for Home" utilizes more advanced AI technology, significantly improving its ability to handle complex commands. Users can now use natural language to issue complex commands like "Turn off all lights except the bedroom" or "Play songs from this year's racing-themed blockbuster," and the system will accurately execute them.
Notably, the new Assistant integrates Gemini Live, enabling a more natural voice conversation experience. Users can engage in multi-turn conversations, whether cooking in the kitchen, chatting daily, or even writing bedtime stories, without having to repeat the wake-up word. This improvement enables the smart assistant to provide more personalized and attentive assistance, truly becoming a smart butler for family life.
Google stated that it will offer both free and paid versions, with pricing likely to be combined with Nest Aware or Google One service packages. With the widespread adoption of smart home devices, the launch of this new assistant is expected to redefine how people interact with devices in the home, providing users with a more convenient smart living experience.
