Meta recently announced a major restructuring of its AI organization through an internal memo, led by its new Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang. According to Bloomberg, the existing AI team will be split into four new divisions, with the core TBD Labs team focusing on foundational model development, including the highly anticipated Llama series of large models.
This restructuring aims to counter intense competition from competitors such as OpenAI and Google DeepMind. Wang, the founder of Scale AI, quickly initiated changes after joining Meta in June of this year. The newly established Meta Super Intelligence Lab (MSL) will integrate research, product development, and infrastructure. Notably, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg personally participated in the recruitment of key positions, demonstrating the company's commitment to its AI strategy.
Over the past few months, Meta has continued to increase its investment in AI.
