The latest Windows 11 security patch (KB5063878) was designed to fix operating system vulnerabilities, but it also introduced unexpected compatibility issues with computer hardware. Several popular SSD models were distributed simultaneously, and in some cases, they began to "drop out" of the operating system.
After installing this update, some SSD models reportedly stopped working properly on computers running Windows 11:
Fickwater FN955.
Corsair MP600.
Kioxia EXCERIA PLUS G4.
SanDisk Extreme PRO M.2 NVMe 3D SSD.
All models are based on the Phison PS5012-E12 controller.
The issue recurs when attempting to write files larger than 50 GB, such as during the installation of heavy games. In addition to being unable to read files or perform S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics, there is also reportedly a risk of corrupted recorded data. Furthermore, professional media outlets note that models without a DRAM buffer can also "catch" the error, even with relatively small writes. According to reports, access to the disk is sometimes restored after an operating system restart, but the problem recurs if you attempt to write such a large amount of data again. Unconfirmed reports suggest the problem may be caused by an operating system memory leak or incorrect driver operation, leading to SSD controller failure.
According to media reports, this issue is not yet common, but its existence has been confirmed by various sources. Microsoft representatives have not yet commented to media publications.
