Apple Watch Ultra 3 release date: 5 key features to look forward to in 2020

Apple plans to launch the next-generation Apple Watch Ultra 3 at its fall event on September 9th, marking the first update to the series since 2023. CNMO has learned that this upgrade will bring at least five groundbreaking features, including satellite communication, a larger screen, and 5G.

According to leaks, the biggest highlight of the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is its satellite connectivity, making it the first Apple Watch to support satellite communication. This will allow users to send distress messages or make emergency calls via satellite, even in remote areas without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. Furthermore, the new watch is expected to feature a narrower bezel design, increasing the display area while maintaining the same size and enhancing the viewing experience.

Another key upgrade for the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is 5G network support. Apple may use MediaTek's 5G RedCap modem chip, providing a more efficient network connection for the wearable device. In terms of performance, the Ultra 3 may be equipped with the S11 chip, featuring a more energy-efficient design, which is expected to further improve battery life. Furthermore, there are breakthroughs in health monitoring: Apple is testing a blood pressure monitoring feature, but it may only support high blood pressure trend warnings rather than precise readings.

The same report also reported that satellite communication and a larger screen may be exclusive features of the Apple Watch Ultra 3, differentiating it from the Series 11, which was released at the same time. The Series 10 upgraded its screen size last year, and the Series 11 is expected to share features such as the S11 chip, 5G, and blood pressure monitoring. Furthermore, both new models will be pre-installed with watchOS 26, which introduces a new "liquid glass" interface design, a customizable Control Center, and an AI-powered "Fitness Buddy" feature that provides real-time exercise motivation.
