On October 23rd, local time, OpenAI announced the launch of the "Company Knowledge" feature for ChatGPT, available to Business, Enterprise, and Edu users. This feature integrates internal company documents, emails, code repositories, and other data, enabling ChatGPT to provide answers directly relevant to the business, significantly improving team collaboration efficiency.
According to the announcement, "Company Knowledge" supports integration with popular work applications like Slack, SharePoint, Google Drive, and GitHub. Powered by the latest GPT-5 model, it retrieves information across multiple sources and generates accurate answers with references. For example, when preparing for a client meeting, ChatGPT can automatically organize Slack messages, email logs, and ticket updates into a comprehensive briefing. This feature is now fully available and strictly adheres to company permissions, accessing only authorized data.
Once enabled, users simply select the feature below the input field and bind the app for the first time. The system will automatically retrieve relevant information for each subsequent question, displaying the data source in real time in the sidebar. Generated answers will be annotated with specific references, allowing for one-click redirects to the original document. In practice, this feature not only answers routine process questions (such as expense claims), but also assists with strategic documentation, performance reporting, and project progress analysis. For example, integrating Slack feedback with customer service tickets can aid product roadmap planning, while extracting GitHub to-do items can help prioritize releases.
Regarding privacy and security, OpenAI emphasizes that all data uses standard encryption, supports SSO and IP whitelisting, and that enterprise data is not used for model training by default. Administrators can also access conversation logs through the Enterprise Compliance API for audit purposes. It's worth noting that this feature currently requires manual activation and does not yet support online search or generating chart images.
