Today, OpenAI officially launched ChatGPT Atlas, its first AI-powered web browser. The tool is now available globally on Apple's macOS platform, with versions for Windows, iOS, and Android coming soon. CEO Sam Altman stated in a livestream that the browser aims to redefine how people use the internet, with a core focus on deeply integrating chat with browsing.
ChatGPT Atlas's biggest highlight is its "intelligent agent" feature. With user authorization, the AI can automatically complete tasks like hotel reservations, flight searches, and even document editing. Product Head Adam Fry highlighted its memory function, which enables personalized service by recording user preferences. Furthermore, the browser supports accessing ChatGPT from any page's sidebar for real-time content summaries, data analysis, and product comparisons, significantly improving information processing efficiency.
The development team is comprised of a strong team, including former Chrome and Firefox core member Ben Goodger and former Apple engineer Justin Rushing. Regarding privacy, users can control the AI's website access permissions and clear their browsing history at any time. Currently, the intelligent agent feature is only available to paid accounts; standard users will have to wait for a later release. The launch of this browser marks a further integration of AI into everyday tools, and its concept of "surfing the Internet for you" may completely change traditional browsing methods.
